During the Soviet era, tableware depicting various flowers, such as roses, daisies, and carnations, was very popular. However, the "Syren'" (Lilac) service is considered truly legendary, produced by the Dulevo Porcelain Factory. It was a dream for Soviet citizens and remains a favorite among collectors to this day.
The artistic design of this service cannot be called innovative: images of lilac branches are applied using décalcomanie (transfer printing) to items of a very common and versatile "Tulip" shape with fluted sides, while the edges are gilded. This motif is known since pre-revolutionary times; it can be frequently found on Kuznetsov and Gardner porcelain, as well as on products from other manufacturers.
The "Syren'" service was produced until the late 1960s. Other factories also used this motif in their tableware, such as the M.I. Kalinin Konakovsky Faience Factory, the “Proletary” and “Krasny Farforist” factories, and the Riga Porcelain Factory. Lilac was also depicted on dinner services (as seen in Raisa Zakharovna’s home in the film "Love and Pigeons"). However, none of this tableware ever achieved the popularity of the Dulevo tea service.
The lightness and airiness of the porcelain, the tenderness and naturalism of the lilac, which seems to exude the fragrance of spring, the familiarity of the motif, and its life-affirming quality – perhaps it is for these reasons that we appreciate the enduring bouquet created by the masters of the Dulevo Porcelain Factory.
The service includes a teapot, sugar bowl, creamer, milk jug, waste pot, 6 cups, and 6 saucers.
All items bear identical hallmarks: DFZ 1957.
Excellent condition with minimal wear to the gilding. Bright décalcomanie.
