The Imperial Porcelain Factory (now known as the Lomonosov Porcelain Factory) was founded by Empress Elizabeth in 1744 in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The Lomonosov Porcelain Factory was the first porcelain manufacturer in Russia to develop and commercially implement alabaster porcelain technology. This fine, delicate porcelain possesses a more brilliant white hue than typical varieties and is remarkably thin, almost translucent. From its initial porcelain bear, hand-made by the inventor of Russian porcelain, Dmitry Vinogradov, Lomonosov has maintained the tradition of imbuing life into porcelain. This quality, favored by the Imperial Romanov Family, remains evident two and a half centuries later, with over 300 distinct figurine types produced at the factory for enjoyment worldwide. Each piece is hand-made and hand-painted. The meticulous attention to detail demonstrated by Lomonosov artists infuses each figurine with life, soul, and individuality. Standards of excellence established by Lomonosov sculptors such as B. Vorobyev, I. Riznich, and P. Veselov garnered significant international recognition at World Exhibitions in Brussels, New York, London, etc.
